apples

Are you joining along in our Block of the Month for 2015?  Classes are just $10 each month.  And the kit is $10.  Some months we will be completing two blocks, and some months three.  There are 20 blocks in all including the label for the back of your quilt.

Here is the finished quilt from Lori Holt of Bee in My Bonnet

This is our own version of the Apples block and the Twinkle Star block is right next to it.

You are also welcome to come into the shop and just pick up the kits.  We know you don't always have the time to sit and sew!

wrap and zap

Have you seen these cute bowl cozies?  They are little potholders that you can set your bowl in before you put it in the microwave. That way when you take out your hot bowl, you don't burn your hands.

Pellon came out with this new product that is microwave safe.  It is 100% natural batting that also helps to insulate.  Be sure to use 100% cotton fabric and thread as well.

There are a lot of tutorials online too.  Be sure to google one and use some of your favorite fabric scraps.  You can find the Wrap and Zap at SKJ for $7.99 a yard.

hung by the chimney with care

Every year at SKJ we host a Christmas Stocking Challenge.  This year will be our 4th Anniversary!  Look at our past winners!

We pick out a fabric for you to use in your stocking.  Last year it was the cute snowman fabric.

Our customers vote for their favorite stocking. And when the ballots are all counted, the winner gets a $40. gift card and a $20 gift card, for the second most votes.

The Christmas tree fabric from Riley Blake was our selected fabric for our 2nd year.

2012 our first Challenge winners! Love those polka dots!

And before Christmas our stockings are donated to the Lincoln Lighthouse Resource and Counseling Center.  They are then given to local families.  Doesn't it sound like fun!!

This is our challenge fabric for 2015.  Another cute Riley Blake print. For $5. you will receive a fat quarter. You can use your fabric in anyway to make your stocking. Pick out your own pattern and size.  Have fun and be creative!

Stocking are due back in the shop by Saturday, December 20.  Call (916) 209-3930 or come in for more information.

You can also visit my Pinterest board "stockings" for lots of inspiration!

pear quilt

If you follow me on Facebook, I recently took pictures of the Mini Pear Quilt in a shop in Downtown Lincoln.  I asked everyone to leave a comment of where the picture was taken.

Isn't it cute! Pictured among all of the sweet canned goodness of a little shop named Country Harvest.

If you left a comment and thought it was at Country Harvest, you had a chance of winning 1 yard of fabric!  And the winner was Adrienne!

She picked out a beautiful Kaffe Fassett fabric.  So I hope this shows you that good things do come from FB!  Just follow me there, and I will host another One Yard giveaway later this month!

instagram

I have finished a fun sewing project that I want to share with you!  This is all from the #verycherryswap on Instagram.

This is the little headband and pincushion that I made.  I love doing English Paper Piecing and making them tinier than usual was fun.  I also filled the pincushion with crushed walnut shells. It gives it a great weight and sharpens your needles too.

This is just the back of the pincushion.  My new favorite fabric, it's from Sweetwater, Mama Said Sew.  See all of the names for quilt blocks!

I also made two placemats. I mostly used fabrics from my LakeHouse, Pam Kitty Morning stash. And did a bit of straight line quilting on my machine. See all the cherries!  This was the fun part too, shopping for all the bits of cherry goodness.

celebrating 3 years

This past week wrapped up my week long celebration for Sew Katie Jean and our 3 year anniversary!

The party started off with Pat Fryer from Villa Rosa Designs coming in to do a Trunk Show of all her fabulous and fun quilts.

I took down all the tables in our classroom space, and was able to fit in enough chairs for 20 plus customers. I also hung some of our own favorite Villa Rosa quilts on the wall.  Providing lots of inspiration for when Pat shared her quilts.

Being here in Downtown Lincoln for 3 years has meant the world to me.  When I first opened, it was because of my love for the fabric.  Now, I am still here because of my love for my wonderful customers. You always come first for me!  Thank you for your help in making my fabric shop a place where we can come together for inspiration, sewing, quilting, and friendship!

It is the best thing in the world, when you have lovely customers! And quilters are some of the nicest people there are.

So I want to say thank you to the people who love my shop, for taking their time and voting for me as the Best Downtown Store. You are what make my shop so very special to me!

To celebrate.... I will be open this Tuesday night, August 5 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm for the Downtown Lincoln Food Trucks.  And I will be having The Best little sale ~ 10% off everything in the shop!

I hope to see you here!!

arrowhead quilt

Thank you ladies who came to our class last Saturday! It was a full class with 8 students.  I just love it when that happens!  Everyone is so busy cutting and sewing, seam ripping and sewing again.

Arrowhead Quilt

Isn't it fun to see how different the fabrics are?  This is my favorite part.  Laying out the blocks and deciding what looks best.

Thanks Mary for teaching! We loved it and can't wait for you to visit again.

This is a whole other story....

visiting teacher

Both of my sisters are coming to visit at the end of the month!  I am crazy excited about it.  We have been luckier than most families who live far apart, since I just saw both Mary and Judith in January.

Judith (middle) turned 50 and we were in Massachusetts for her birthday.
I went cross country skiing for the first time!

Now it's their turn to come home to California.  Our mom is celebrating her 80th birthday with a family reunion.

While they are here visiting, I have asked my sister Mary to teach a quilting class!  So if you sign up early to save your seat, she will teach you how to make the Arrowhead Quilt.

Saturday, July 26
11:00 am - 3:00 pm / $30.

We will have a fun time of sewing, snacks, and a few door prizes!
Sign up and pay for your class - you will receive 10% off your class supplies.
Call (916) 209-3930 or come in to register.

Every month we meet in the shop to sew Pillowcases for Soldiers.
And I know many of you love to sew, but don't have the time
to come in and sew with us.
Today, I finally took some time and looked up a video tutorial.
This is a great video from Missouri Star Quilt Co.
If you make a pillowcase for a soldier,
we would love for you to drop it off,
you are also welcome to mail it:

she wished every morning

was a Pam Kitty Morning!  I just met with my fabric rep yesterday and ordered all I could of the the newest Lakehouse Fabrics.

These will be sent to my shop in November, maybe January. Do you think you can wait that long?

Until then, visit Pam and her cute, inspirational blog and see what she is up to.  Usually a bit of sewing, quilting, and a bunch of cuteness.  Did I mention cute...
