twin cities

Quilt Market in the great twin cities has been on my mind this weekend.   And for the past hour, I have been cruising again.  Cruising Flickr.  Looking at all of the wonderful pic's from Quilt Market.

Right now, that is where my sister Mary is.  Buying fabric for her shop in Grand Forks.  I am so jealous.  But this is what I can do instead.

Look at everyone else's photo's plus my own from Fall QM in Houston.  It is more eye candy and a ton of inspiration that I love!

I just want to go on line and shop for fabric right now.  Buy up some of the fun stuff that I can't get locally.

If you do look through my Flickr, look through my favorites.  There is some fun stuff in there too!  I have been looking especially at using up my scraps again!  Making a little log cabin quilt.  Stay tuned for that.

p.s. please remember to leave a comment to be entered into my book giveaway!  It ends Monday.

It has been awhile since I have had any kind of giveaway.  And since everyone has been so generous with me lately, I thought I would pass on some of the love to you.

  1. Leave a comment here on this post.

  2. Twitter about it and leave a second comment saying you did.

  3. Post it on your Facebook and leave another comment here saying you did.

  4. Finally, blog about it if you like and leave another comment here, saying you did.  With a link too please :)

That gives you 4 seperate chances for you to enter this book giveaway.  You can also use the book cover photo if you like.  The giveaway will end on Monday, May 24th.  I hope you have fun with it!  Sharin' the love.

sweet tea

I have finally gotten down to a little business.  I realized just this morning that it has been forever since I added anything new to my shop.  Duh...

Was I thinking that I didn't have anything newly made?  I do not know.  Because I obviously do.

Today I changed all that!  I opened the blinds in my home for that wonderful natural lighting.  And had fun taking some pic's.

This wonderful fabric has been just waiting for something fun to be sewn up!  I was able to use it in a few different ways.  I still have more tea cups left, and a few fancy desserts.  Perfect for your sweet tea party.

Check back with me tomorrow for a little thank you from me!

day four

Or should it be day seven?  For the kids clothes week sewing challenge, I did sew four out of the seven days.  I wish it could have been more.  If I could I would do nothing but sew.  And blog.  And read blogs.  And eat and nap.  And kiss my kids.  And my husband.  Well, sew a lot anyway!

I did end my sewing week with finally finishing the two pants that I was sewing up for my girl.  She did have a favorite pair.  But she did pick one pant to sleep in and one to wear for playing with her girlfriends.

This is the fabric from my sister Mary.  Congratulations!  She really liked the birds and the racoon on the fabric.  But once I put the pants together the racoon was not to be seen. There are just a little pair of eyes peeking out in the inside seam.  It is kinda sweet, hiding.

And here is a pic of my sweet peas and roses that are blooming in my backyard right now. Thanks for following my sewing adventures!  Have a fun week!

day three

Today my 11 year old son went on his 5th grade camping trip.  Oh the planning and the excitement that have led up to this day has been memorable!  The first pair of hiking boots, the backpack, and his mom constantly reminding him to use his sunscreen.

I know that he is going to look back at this 3 days and 2 nights away from home with some fantastic memories.  I think he is especially looking forward to being away from his brother and sister.  Oh the mischief he is going to get into!

Do you remember going to camp?  Mine was in 6th grade at Sly Park.  And there were a bunch of different schools there too.  So we all got a chance to make new friendships from around Sacramento.  Dear friends that we thought would be our BFF.

Now to my sewing challenge.  My sewing time was even less today than it was yesterday.  The pants are moving along nicely and my girl has chosen her favorite pair without even trying them on yet.  And I have found that I do really like this pattern.  I wi ll be making a few more pairs of these.  Especially now that I have a feel for how all the pieces are to go together. :)

day two

Today I moved on to sewing up some pants.

I used this pattern before and made the dress.  It was a little bigger than what I wanted.  So I'm curious how the pants will fit.  When I held them up to my girl's waist they did look longer than the capris in the pic.

The fabric on the left is vintage from my mom.  The fabric on the right is from my sister Mary.  I'm making two pairs so my girl can choose which one she likes better.  Or maybe she will want both and make me a very happy momma!

And now I have to ask... do you get confused by sewing pants?  I often struggle with the very simple directions!  Sometime I sew them up wrong.  I can just never picture it in my mind.  I think that's why I didn't finish my sewing project today. Tomorrow I will tame these beastly capris. :D

day one

Yeah!  I got started on my challenge today. The hard part is where to start. What to sew what fabric to use.  So I reached for this cute book that I've had, but really haven't sewn from yet.

My other problem is a lot of times when I do sew for my own girl, she doesn't want to wear what I've made.  So I decided to make a little something for my girl and her friends.

School is almost out in the kindergarten class and there are four girls graduating in June.  So I decided to make a little gift for each of them!

This is a good little pattern.  It takes only a little bit of fabric. Maybe a half of a fat quarter size.

I also ran over to my local thrift and found this neat tool to turn those narrow pieces of fabric right side out.  Only $2.  Does any one know what this tool actually is?  Let me know if you do.  It worked pefectly.

Well here she is, all smiles.  Complete with oreo cookie crumbs on her face.  One of those is actually a beautiful little freckle!

Maybe I should have brushed her hair first!  She went right for this red headband.  And I was thinking she would scoop up the pink colored headband for herself.  Full of surprises.

This pattern was super easy.  I did adjust it a bit and shorten the length, since it was a little loose.  I would like to make these again.  Maybe using handkerchiefs.

And since I did make four headbands, I sewed for more than an hour today.  Which feels so good, right?  Challenge met for day one.

paper doll

Anything with a paperdoll gets me!  And there is even sewing involved.  So this did it!

Even the colors are perfect for me!

So I am participating in this fun challenge.  Sew for one hour a day for one week.  And it must be kids clothes.  Set everything else aside.  No other responsibilities will be met except for this one!

Join me won't you?
