she needs a coat

I had such a fun day last week. My girl and I went to the pumpkin patch with her preschool class. The day before I was going through my patterns looking for some inspiration. When I saw this jacket pattern I though it would be perfect for her!

And I had some of the cutest Halloween fabric that I was going to make another skirt with, but how boring is that! So instead I made her this fully lined, almost reversible jacket.

I reminded myself of my mom, finishing my sewing the night before it needed to be finished. And in my true mom form, I even altered the pattern. While everyone had already gone off to bed, I was sewing on some cute vintage mismatched buttons. It was done in time and she wore it the whole time we were out.

I was so glad that it was a cool morning. We went on the kids train ride, walked through the petting zoo (smelly!), saw a pig race, and went on the hay ride to pick out our pumpkins. I love getting to go on this field trip. There would be no way I could have this much fun by myself!

p.s. The hat my girl is wearing is a a candy corn knit hat that I made. It might just be the next crafty day that I will be hosting :)

time to vote - for me!

Today when you visit Vintage Indie, you will see this banner for the Artist Challenge and a little item made by me. Can you guess which little thing I made? Check out #3 and vote for me!

I made a lingerie bag using a vintage handkerchief. The black border just makes the colored flowers so vibrant and beautiful. It is just perfect to put under you pillow with your nicely folded nightie. Or put it away in your undergarment drawer, a nice feminine touch! This bag has little pink pom pom fringe and simply closes with velcro, covered with a delicate pink vintage button. I think it makes a perfect gift for a new bride, or a special gift just for you!

So, please vote for me #3! If I win, my prize will be a month of free advertising on Vintage Indie. Thanks all!!

crafty day

How would you like an invitation to my home? I will be hosting a day of sewing! I would love to help some of my friends get ready for holiday gift giving. And what better, than to give a gift that was handmade by you!

[caption id="attachment_498" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="some of my vintage pillow cases and sheets"]some of my vintage pillow cases and sheets[/caption]

This first crafty day you will learn to make a pillowcase. All you need is your own sewing machine, fabric, and basic sewing knowledge. The class cost is $15.00 and is limited to the first 8 registered students. I will provide some light drinks, snacks and a few door prizes!

Saturday, November 1, 2008
1 - 4 p.m.
at my home

I have made a few of my own pillowcases for my own three little ones. It's a great little way to decorate their room, when one year they love hotwheels and the next year they love pokemon. And for your girl friends, it's a nice gift to make up a pair of pillowcases in a sweet fabric combination that will compliment their bedroom. Since the fabric choices are unlimited, this could really be an inexpensive gift for you to make for everyone on your shopping list.

Just email me at trottgirl@sbcglobal.net if you are interested and I will then mail you a material list with your sign up confirmation.

Some other classes I would love to host before the holidays will be making a scarfe, knitting a hat, and scrappy fabric coasters. What are you interested in learning to do?

nie nie

I don't know if you have heard of this or read of this. But here, now you can. There is a sale that has been going on, on etsy. It began Sept. 24 and is still going. The sales made go to benefit a young mother and father who were in a plane crash and suffered severe burns. Glitter and Grunge put together a few items for you to bid on. One of my small Christmas stockings is in the same little collection.

Even if you just read the story of this family and how they are supporting one another, you will be doing a part in helping them. They just really want to be an inspiration to others and share their message of love and family support. It is an amazing story and a continued struggle to heal.

charm flower brooch

Wow! Look at this! This is my first tutorial and it is so great to see it on someones site :) I'm so happy. Gabreial did such a great job with my pictures. If you make your own flower brooch, I would love to see it too!

Note:This does make a big brooch. You can make yours smaller and try a 3" or 4" square.

craft show updates

I have some photos for you from the craft fair I did at College Greens. And some info on where I will be this weekend. But I think you will like some pics first and learn a little bit about who I met there!

This is Colleen, the College Greens craft show organizer. She made these super cute Christmas stocking for a vintage quilt that she had in her home. Only $7! No, I did not buy one, but I did buy something else from her that I will show you, sometime.

Say hello to Claire from Little Lovelies. Also the brains behind Glitter and Grunge and Handmade Parade. Did I remember everything? She had the cutest table set up with these pretty feather trees, hung with handmade Christmas ornaments. See her blog if you would like to join a crafty ornament swap.

My sweet and supportive neighbors came out to see me. Maggie, Katie, Marilyn, and me (Katie again).

My booth neighbor Tina Leanne Jewelry and Fine Arts. We arranged a swap, and I got the cutest earrings made with silver circles and amber stones. I have been wearing them almost every day since!

Some of my things from the booth, you can tell what a beautiful day it was.

I even ran into my friend Maria from high school. Isn't that cool? She has a great business, Plants N Rocks, where she sells succulents. Most are in these cute small containers and some are in larger arrangements. I love succulents because they can last longer than most plants without water. And I am really bad about watering my outside potted plants.

This is Sharon from Flights of Fancy. She takes vintage suitcases of various shapes and sizes and decoupages them with different cut out pictures. So the suitcase looks like it has traveled the globe.

And this crafty girl is Stacey Ball from bouton blue where she makes crafty accessories with vintage buttons. I bought some little hair pins and and ring from her, it will all make into my girl's stocking at Christmas time. And the extra cool thing about Stacey is that she has a second crafty business, Sinnet Ball, making toys and accessories for dogs. Cute huh!

And last (but not least of course!) is my aprons. Don't they look pretty? It was such a nice morning!

If you are interested in learning more about any of these talented ladies and their info isn't listed, go ahead and email me and I can pass it along to you. Thanks for looking!!

omg!

Look what I just found on amazon.com!! Isn't this the cutest book cover ever! I am so excited to see it come out.

If you didn't know already why I am sooo excited about this... I have two projects that will be featured in this book! I also sent Lark a ton of vintage embroidered pillowcases, from my own stash, so they could take pictures of them for this same book.

I'll keep you posted as to when it will be released. As far as I know, it will be spring 2009. Not soon enough for me!!
