It's no secret

I have some fantastic news to share!

Because it's been a secret.

These three great girls, Audrey, Katie, and Sue
are going to open a Quilt Shop!

Welcome Sew Katie Jean back to Lincoln, California
Opening April 2019

Friday, May 8, 2015

This was a bittersweet day.

Two of my beauties came with me to the shop.  Seeing it for the last time.  It looked very much like it did when I first moved in.

My wonderful friends also came
and helped take down my cute signs, and fixtures.

My girl is still tiny enough to fit into
some of the small empty spaces.

And so many of what little was left.  Filled up three cars.  Lots was donated, shipped off, and some will be listed on my etsy site.

last days

In case you missed it ~ here is an update on the last few days of my shop:

Birdie came in to pick up our last donation of 34 Pillowcases for Soldiers. Thank you ladies for your hard work on these!

Some sweet ladies had a cupcake, lemonade, and a nice chat! I love that about my customers. Such a great friendly group of ladies.

And the shop sold out of pretty much everything! Thank you so much for coming in and shopping. Whatever I have left will be listed soon on my etsy site.  Plus some other handmade and vintage items.

it's closing time

I have had my shop open for almost 4years.  It has been a wonderful time of teaching, learning, and making new friends!  I have loved getting to know so many of you.

My husband has been doing a lot of taking care of our house and family. He never tells me no and has been so supportive of me and my dreams.  With both of us working more than full time, something has to give. I have decided that now is the time for me to close my shop.

You have taught me so much in your generosity and support of my little quilt shop in Lincoln.  I will continue to quilt and sew.  I am also looking forward to cooking dinner every night, going to weekly baseball games, and taking the dog for a walk!

My last day open will be Saturday, May 2.  I will be having a huge sale - everything must go!  It is the perfect time for you to come in give me a hug, wish me the best, and buy fabric!

Thank you for all of your love and support.

Our Quilty Fun, BOM 2015 is going strong!

So much cutting and kitting to do! And a fun technique to learn for this Flying Geese block from Lori Holt (block for March).

Here is a fun video of our sewing ladies!  I love hearing all of the talking and laughing going on during class time.  It's a really short video, but they are such a great group!

And here are two of my completed blocks, Apples and Twinkle Stars.  I finished my Court House Steps block, which I loved making.  Up next are the Baskets.  Just three of those to make.

If you would like to join in, there is room still available in the Thursday class.  It meets the 4th Thursday of every month at 10:00 - 12:00 pm.  Call the shop (916) 209-3930 to save your seat and a kit!

sweetheart

I hung up some sweet Valentine quilts in the shop today.  The pink/grey quilt is made with a charm pack.  The lots of hearts quilt is made using the Go Baby, and the red heart on the right was made as a gift from and Insta Gram mini quilt swap.

The Lincoln News Messenger came by and took some pictures too! I hope they end up in tomorrow's paper....  That would be neat!

And I played Dress-Up with my mannequin.  Isn't she the cutest! I used some vintage clothing patterns, that I have a ton of.  And a heart banner that my mom made last year.  If you see Bridget (the mannequin) come in and say hello!

Fabric Sale:

go baby!

My Mom, Donna, teaches in the shop about once a month.  She loves using the Go Baby from Accuquilt.  She seems to always be thinking of something new to make.

Here she is with her students from the Sweet Heart Table Topper class.  I love how these ladies each made it their own way.  Just using one color of fabric, making the topper oblong, or using brighter, deeper fabrics.  Each one is beautiful!

The next class is going to be the Shamrock Wall Hanging.  See how Mom used the Heart Die again!  So cute.

It measure 8 x 15. And will be great to make with a variety of green fabrics.  Or just one green batik, like in this one here.  We also added a few ladybug buttons.  I hear they are lucky too!

Saturday, February 14
10:30 - 3:00 pm / $10.
And you will even be fed lunch!

Call (916) 209-3930 or come in to register for this class.  You will receive a class supply list when you sign up!

apples

Are you joining along in our Block of the Month for 2015?  Classes are just $10 each month.  And the kit is $10.  Some months we will be completing two blocks, and some months three.  There are 20 blocks in all including the label for the back of your quilt.

Here is the finished quilt from Lori Holt of Bee in My Bonnet

This is our own version of the Apples block and the Twinkle Star block is right next to it.

You are also welcome to come into the shop and just pick up the kits.  We know you don't always have the time to sit and sew!

wrap and zap

Have you seen these cute bowl cozies?  They are little potholders that you can set your bowl in before you put it in the microwave. That way when you take out your hot bowl, you don't burn your hands.

Pellon came out with this new product that is microwave safe.  It is 100% natural batting that also helps to insulate.  Be sure to use 100% cotton fabric and thread as well.

There are a lot of tutorials online too.  Be sure to google one and use some of your favorite fabric scraps.  You can find the Wrap and Zap at SKJ for $7.99 a yard.

hung by the chimney with care

Every year at SKJ we host a Christmas Stocking Challenge.  This year will be our 4th Anniversary!  Look at our past winners!

We pick out a fabric for you to use in your stocking.  Last year it was the cute snowman fabric.

Our customers vote for their favorite stocking. And when the ballots are all counted, the winner gets a $40. gift card and a $20 gift card, for the second most votes.

The Christmas tree fabric from Riley Blake was our selected fabric for our 2nd year.

2012 our first Challenge winners! Love those polka dots!

And before Christmas our stockings are donated to the Lincoln Lighthouse Resource and Counseling Center.  They are then given to local families.  Doesn't it sound like fun!!

This is our challenge fabric for 2015.  Another cute Riley Blake print. For $5. you will receive a fat quarter. You can use your fabric in anyway to make your stocking. Pick out your own pattern and size.  Have fun and be creative!

Stocking are due back in the shop by Saturday, December 20.  Call (916) 209-3930 or come in for more information.

You can also visit my Pinterest board "stockings" for lots of inspiration!

pear quilt

If you follow me on Facebook, I recently took pictures of the Mini Pear Quilt in a shop in Downtown Lincoln.  I asked everyone to leave a comment of where the picture was taken.

Isn't it cute! Pictured among all of the sweet canned goodness of a little shop named Country Harvest.

If you left a comment and thought it was at Country Harvest, you had a chance of winning 1 yard of fabric!  And the winner was Adrienne!

She picked out a beautiful Kaffe Fassett fabric.  So I hope this shows you that good things do come from FB!  Just follow me there, and I will host another One Yard giveaway later this month!
