sew day

About a week ago the Sacramento Modern Quilt Guild had a sew day. And me being a member in good standing, I went. But what to sew... that is what to quilt?

I had this stack of a charm pack that I did a bit of sewing and cutting on. Making up some sweet little squares. Ready for the day of sewing.

This is what I wanted my square to look like. And I had a bit of an idea of how I wanted to lay it out. Very simply of course. But I especially wanted another pair of eyes to look it over and offer any suggestions.

And this is what we came up with. The white bits of fabrics make up a perfect zig zag pattern. Doesn't it look cool! I was just going to have the blocks in all neat straight rows. I also had four half squares left over and didn't know where to put those either. Can you see them in the picture. They fit nicely into the sides of the quilt where I was going to add some solid fabrics.

This won't turn out big enough for my Cal King size bed. Unless I get fancy with more border details. But I doubt I'll do that. I like it simple and modern. Plus, it will look perfect on a little accessory that I just thrifted today for my bedroom! I am so excited to show it to you on Thursday. Can't wait :)

Yeah! I not only finished the quilt that I wanted to get done, but I will be teaching a class on it! I'm so excited that Sew Fun, a new fabric shop in Folsom asked me to teach for them. Now you know that quilting isn't my main thing. So I wanted to teach a class for other sewers like me. The untraditional quilter.

That's when I found this fun tutorial by Cluck Cluck Sew. And when she said I could use it to teach as a class! I was so excited and a little nervous of course. But I could hardly wait to get to it!

The only thing that I really did modify on the pattern is that I used fabrics from a charm pack. So the squares are smaller, but it did make it a lot easier for me to make sure that the fabrics all complimented each other. And I do love charm packs! It's like a stack of fabric samples.

And this quilt was made using the American Jane fabrics from Sandy Klopp. Love Her!

I have been busy doing a ton of party planning that I haven't blogged forever.  Did you miss me?

Well, I finally got out of the house for a little fun with my sister Mary.  We had to check out The Tin Thimble while she was here of course!  And she encouraged me to buy this fabric.



Which really goes great with my kitchen.  This is just the perfect fabric for napkins.  Which I do really need.  I just had friends over for dinner a few weeks ago and all I had were my fancy white damask napkins.  This fabric is just my style, fun and whimsical.  Just like me!

Now off to sew!  What are you up to?
